Adridharan Das removed from Iskcon post

Times of India/March 25, 2002

Kolkata -- Adridharan Das, an initiator of the Iskcon Reform Movement, has been removed as president of movement's Temple in the city.

The secretary of Iskcon Bureau, Bhima Das, told reporters at a press conference here on Monday that the decision to remove him from the post had been taken on March 17 by the managing trustee of the organisation.

He said that Dayaram Das had been installed in his place as temple president. Adridharan, however, would continue to remain as an ordinary member of Iskcon, the secretary said.

Bhima Das said that the temple authorities had been compelled to sack Adridharan from his post as he had ignored repeated requests to attend meetings and clarify his position on the controversy over the control of the city temple.

Known the world over as the 'Hare Krishna' movement, the Iskcon is embroiled in controversy over the alleged violation of the last will and testament of the movement's founder, A C Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, by a section of his disciples.

Iskcon Reform Movement members claim that they are trying to creat public opinion in compelling the present Iskcon authorities, headed by Jayapataka Swami, to follow Prabhupada's last will and testament.

Meanwhile, Iskcon on Monday released a DVD on the various meetings between the founder of Iskcon, Prabhupada and Beatles singer George Harrison.
