Polygamist clan leader imprisoned in Arizona

KPHO TV, Phoenix/March 17, 2006

Salt Lake City Polygamist clan leader Addam Swapp has finished his term at the federal prison in Phoenix and now is serving his Utah state sentence in an Arizona state prison, also in Phoenix.

Swapp was the leader of a small polygamous clan that bombed a Mormon chapel in Utah in 1988 and then made a standoff at their Utah ranch that ended in the death of a Utah prison corrections officer.

The 15-year federal term was for the bombing and the state sentence of one to 15 years is for manslaughter in the shooting death.

Family members who live in Utah want Swapp transferred to a Utah prison, where they can visit him more often. They have asked Utah Governor Jon Huntsman to intervene.

Utah corrections officials don't think that's a good idea, since the shooting victim has relatives that work in Utah's prison system.
