Court orders Bent adherent from compound

KOB News 4, New Mexico/January 30, 2009

After starving herself for a month, a New Mexico cult member belonging to Wayne Bent's church was in the custody of her sister Thursday night.

The Lord Our Righteousness Church wrote on its Web site that Esther, also known as Aquinnah O'Keefe, had been removed Wednesday evening by Union County sheriff's deputies.

The incident was just the latest in the ongoing saga in Strong City. First, the self-proclaimed messiah, Wayne Bent, was sent to prison for 10 years on a molestation conviction.

Now Esther, who has been starving herself for the past 30 days, was removed by Sheriff's deputies from the compound.

A court order mandates the woman to go to the hospital for treatment. Her sister, a former cult member, got a judge to sign the order.

In an interview with Eyewitness News 4, Esther said she was following commandments from God. She also said she loves Wayne Bent and she is willing to die for him.

"God is the one who instructed me to do this and so it's based upon my religious beliefs and convictions," she said.
