"Be a man and say, 'No I don't want to do this right now'"

January 1998
By an almost Sterling Attendee

Thank you so much! I sat here all night (literally) trying to find anything on the Sterling Institute on the WWW and was coming up with nothing. They sure don't want you to know anything or be able to make a informed decision! I then found your WWW page! Unfortunately this was after I had agreed last night to go on the weekend thing and my wife had enough sense to kick me out of the house for not discussing with her "my" decision to spend $600. Talking with my wife after reading though your entire "Sterling" library of references led us to the conclusion that we needed to cancel the credit card as soon as possible. I just finished doing that 30 minutes ago. Being able to talk with my wife is one of the most important things to me.

This all started with my lack of direction at this point in my life. I have (maybe had) a friend who I confided in. I told him about some of my trying times in my life he told me about this great group of guys that got together. (Now that I think about it they never mentioned the name of the national chain until one guy did accidentally) I decided that I would go to their Open House. They demanded an answer and kept saying that you need to do this week end thing.

In hindsight it seems strange that they would want us to make a decision about $600 dollars with out a night of "sleeping" on it. Also the next weekend thing was close enough to the Open House night that the money HAD to go out in two days. I now think they must be really well organized OR extremely unconcerned about how quickly the new people had to rearrange their lives to do the week end thing AND pay for it in 2 days!

I have a lot more respect now for one of the other "new" men that was able to stand his ground (be a man) and say, "No I don't want to do this right now."

The group by it self has potential and they all seem like really nice guys! That is one of the enticing things about the whole shebang. The next couple of months are going to be interesting! Luckily I am in the process of getting into the Big Brother/Big Sister program so I will have an outlet for my manly/fatherly mentoring. As my wife said, "You don't need to pay someone $600 dollars to learn what you need, you especially won't learn it in 2 days."

Part of me wants to try to save my friend, but he is one of the original people in their group. Oh well life continues and I thank you again!
