The truth about Peaches and the Scientologists

Sunday Express, UK/November 1,2009

Socialtie Peaches Geldof attended a glitzy Church of Scientology ball where the star-studded guest list is understood to have included Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

The daughter of Live Aid legend Sir Bob Geldof rubbed shoulders with some of the controversial sect’s most senior members at their UK headquarters.

Peaches, who admitted last week that she has been studying Scientology for two years, was among 5,000 followers at a weekend-long celebration at Saint Hill Manor in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

She joined friends at a charity ball, then watched a concert marking the 25th anniversary of the International Association of Scientologists the following evening.

Cruise and wife Katie Holmes, and Travolta and Kelly Preston are said to have been at the gala earlier this month.

Peaches, 20, who has been criticised for being petulant in the past, divides her time between homes in London and New York, where she works for fashion magazine Nylon. A source close to her said: "Peaches had a great time that weekend.

"Tom Cruise and John Travolta are understood to have dropped by so if that was the case, she was mingling with some pretty important people.

"This is something Peaches has had an interest in for a while. She has kept it pretty quiet but it’s not a fad that will fizzle out in a couple of weeks.

"She attends Scientology classes and is still learning all about it."

Peaches admitted in a television interview last week that she was following the bizarre teachings of Scientology founder and pulp science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. She said: "I am a Scientologist. I’ve been one for a while. I might as well be open about it.
