Leah Remini has 'lost friends' since Scientology exit

USA Today/September 10, 2013

By Ann Oldenburg

On her Monday show, Ellen DeGeneres asked Leah Remini about leaving Scientology.

"My mother got involved when we were very young so it's all we really ever knew," explained Remini. "But over time, my eyes got opened and I could just no longer be affiliated with the organization, and my family felt the same, so we left."

And how is the actress doing?

Remini paused to take a sip from her mug. "It's hard. We've lost friends that can no longer talk to us who are still in the organization. These are friends that we've had for dozens of years."

But, she added, "Our family's stronger. We're together." And, she said, "We have other friends, who are not in the church, who have stood by us and that's all we can ask for."
