Matt Willis has opened up on joining the Scientology group at the height of his addiction battle with drugs and alcohol.

The Busted singer, who has famously battled with addiction throughout his life, has revealed how he became a member of the group whilst plagued with problems.

During his On The Mend podcast, Matt has revealed how he shelled out for course after course to understand the workings of the group but claims they attempted to turn him against TV star wife, Emma.

He suggested that his wife was used as a ‘reason’ for his problems.

Recalling his time affiliated with the group, he told how he was first approached on Regent Street or Oxford Street in London by a man in a suit.

Matt admitted he was heavily under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time.

However, he agreed to visit the Church of Scientology the following day.

Matt said: “I rocked up at this big building. And on the top of it, it said Church of Scientology.”

He went on: “I got through this other course and everything everything was pointing to some kind of like negative influence in my life that was draining me like some person.

“And I was asking questions, ‘who is that’?

“They’re like, only you know that.

“I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, man’. The problem is me. Like really, like I’m making all these problems happen.

“Like there’s no one else that’s, you know, and it was it was a really weird thing.

“Slowly but surely, I was like, ‘I think you’re talking about my wife’.”

Matt went on to add that after realising this, he began to change his view on the group.

He suggested they only wanted to have access to him and wanted him to have no connections outside of Scientology.

Matt said: “They wanted me to just be connected to this. And so it took me about maybe two weeks to go, ‘no, mate. This is b******s or so.’

“I never got any answers. Did all the I paid for these things, did all the courses, got nothing.”

He added: “I’m really glad I got out when I did.”

When contacted by The Sun, a spokesperson for the Church of Scientology said: “A fundamental principle of the Scientology religion and its applications is the improvement of communication and relationships with others. Scientology is a practical religion that includes study and application of principles, to benefit yourself and increase your ability to help others.

“The Church’s social betterment programmes reach into society to tackle some of the main causes of societal problems and ruin, such as illiteracy, drug abuse, moral decay, criminality and natural disasters.”

Scientology is known as one of the most controversial religions and was founded in the 1950s by the late Dr. Lafayette Ronald Hubbard.

By definition, Scientology is, “the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life.”

Like Christianity, Scientology is another religion but instead of focusing on a God, those who practice focus on the science of the mind with the goal of spiritual enlightenment and freedom.

Those who believe in Scientology are known as Scientologist, they believe in an immortal spirit and in improving their spirit while on Earth.

The religion does not focus on a Heaven or Hell, instead it focuses on the spirit and mind.
