1890s Campbelltown homestead owned by fugitive Agape cult leader Rocco Leo sets auction record

The Advertiser, Australia/February 6, 2018

A sprawling Campbelltown property owned by a fugitive doomsday cult leader has sold to developers, setting a new price record for the northeastern suburb.

The property at 25 Hart St, Campbelltown, which was the home of Agape Ministries doomsday cult leader Rocky Leo, went under the hammer on the weekend, attracting 11 registered bidders and selling for $1.75 million.

Advertised as a “Sherrif’s Sale” , the home was put on the market last year as part of Supreme Court action designed to repay the cult’s creditors, including the Australian Taxation Office.

The Advertiser has previously reported Agape Minstires had unpaid debt in excess of $10 million.

The 2262sqm property with a 38m frontage included a five-bedroom bluestone-fronted symmertical cottage, which was built in the 1890s and would have been one of the area’s original faming homesteads. It also included a tennis/basketball court and a detached granny flat.

It had been updated over the years and included some original fireplaces but was not heritage listed.

The property had been on the market since October.
