ELF member to face 41 months after plea

Clackamas County -- A member of the Earth Liberation Front will spend more than three years in prison for two arson attacks last year.

Jacob Sherman of Portland faced about 40 years in prison for the attacks but signed a plea agreement allowing him to serve 41 months in federal custody.

Sherman is one of four people charged with taking part in the June 2001 arson of three logging trucks near Estacada to protest the controversial Eagle Creek timber sale.

Sherman was also accused of setting three cement trucks on fire that same year.

The radical environmental group, Earth Liberation Front claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Another suspect in the arsons Michael Scarpitti also known as Tre' Arrow is still on the run.
