Church says 2 more priests accused of sexual abuse

The Associated Press/September 10, 2019

Bridgeport, Connecticult — A Roman Catholic Diocese in Connecticut has disclosed the names of two more priests who it says have been credibly accused of sexual abuse.

Both priests named by Bridgeport Bishop Frank Caggiano are deceased.

Caggiano says the Rev. Vincent P. Cleary was ordained in 1944 and served at St. Augustine Parish in Bridgeport as well as parishes in Stamford, Norwalk and Stratford. He died in 1989. The allegations date back more than 50 years.

Caggiano says two Father Vincent P. Clearys have served in the diocese and there are no allegations against the other Vincent P. Cleary, who died in 1965.

Caggiano says the allegation against Monsignor William Genuario, who died in 2015, dates back more than 30 years. Genuario served in several parishes and in several roles with the diocese.
