Lawsuit Claims Sexual Abuse by Former Fresno Priest

KMPH Fox News 26/August 16, 2011

A Northern California man has filed a lawsuit in which he accuses Rev. Don Flickinger, a former priest at Fresno' San Joaquin Memorial High School, of sexually abusing him as a boy in San Jose.

In the lawsuit, the man accuses Flickinger of decades of sexual abuse against minors and also says Bay Area churches transferred the priest on several occasions.

The lawsuit also says former Memorial High students have come forward with other accusations of sexual misconduct against Flickinger.

Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, rallied outside St. John's Cathedral in Downtown Fresno Tuesday afternoon.

The Diocese of Fresno has not commented on the accusations but issued a news release which includes procedures that are followed if a member of the clergy is charged with a crime, including: filing a report with law enforcement and placing the individual on administrative leave.

The Diocese says Flickinger is now retired.
