Two clergy abuse lawsuits head to court

The Davenport Diocese wants a jury to decide any sexual abuse lawsuits it receives. The diocese says instead of settling cases out of court it will defend itself. The Diocese has shelled out more than 10 million in settelments since 2004. The church says it faces financial ruin if it continues to settle cases out of court.

On Monday, a jury will hear the case of Michael Uhde of Davenport. He is suing the Davenport Diocese and Former priest Thomas Feeney. Uhde says the abuse happened in the late 50's when he served as an alter boy at Sacred Heart in Davenport. Jury selection starts at 9 a.m. in the Scott County courthouse.

On september 20th another jury will decide the fate of former Bishop Lawrence Soens. He is named in a lawuit filed by alleged victim Michael Gould. The suit also names Iowa City Regina High School and the Diocese of Davenport. Soens served as principal at the school in the 50's and 60's. Gould is one of 7 former students who have alleged abuse againt Soens.
