Police are still investigating allegations about Gloriavale Christian Community.

A police hotline was set up in April 2015 after allegations were made in the media about abuse at the remote West Coast community.

Former members of the community made claims about physical punishment, brainwashing and sexual abuse of girls as young as 12.

West Coast area commander Inspector Mel Aitken said on Wednesday that police received several calls to the 0800 number set up for people to raise matters in relation to Gloriavale.

"In order to protect the privacy of those callers police are not prepared to divulge the number or nature of those conversations or any action that may arise as a result of information received.

"The investigation is ongoing and no further information can be provided at this stage," she said.

Gloriavale community leader Fervent Stedfast would not answer when asked whether police visited the community.

"I can't comment about what the police are doing. Nothing has come of it but what the police are doing behind the scenes who would know," he said.

The police hotline is still open. Anyone who wants to discuss their experiences while living within the community can call 0800 400 800.
