A UK court on Thursday jailed for 10 years a neo-Nazi found to have a cache of weapons suspected to be in preparation for an "act of terror".

Alan Edward, 55, was convicted in September of inviting support for proscribed neo-Nazi terror group National Action and of posting homophobic and transphobic material on the internet following a trial.

In total, Edward, from Falkirk in Scotland, was convicted of 14 offences, including four terrorism charges.

They included possession of a crossbow, machete, sword, knuckleduster, and arrowheads, which led to "the suspicion" having such arms was linked to "the commission or preparation or instigation of an act of terror".

He was also convicted of other offences committed between January 2021 and September 2022 including growing cannabis and threatening and abusive behaviour regarding memes posted on the social network GAB depicting Holocaust denial and of an "anti-LGBTQ+ nature".

Other statements and memes were "of a racist and anti-Semitic" nature, the court heard, while some were "aggravated by prejudice relating to transgender and sexual orientation", a court heard earlier.

Passing sentence at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Fiona Tait sentenced Edward to 10 years in custody followed by a five-year serious crime supervision order.

Tait also ordered a 30-year supervision order under the Counter-Terrorism Act.

"It is necessary to punish you and deter others from possessing weapons and engaging in acts of terrorism," she said.

"I do not consider the normal period of licence to be sufficient to protect the public," she added, referring to the lengthy 30 years supervision order.
