Exclusive: Wife of baseball star claims Madonna used Kabbalah to steal her man

The Mirror, UK/July 5, 2008

The wife of one of America's biggest sports stars has accused Madonna of using Kabbalah to steal her husband.

She says she found a letter from baseball ace Alex 'A-Rod' Rodriguez to Madge, saying: "You're my soulmate."

Angry Cynthia Rodriguez told a friend: "He was having an affair with her."

Madonna, 49, said to be planning to divorce Guy Ritchie, insists she and Rodriguez, 32, are merely friends. Advertisement

Cynthia, 34, insists the singer's friendship with her husband blossomed after she introduced him to the mystical Jewish religion.

She told one friend: "I feel like Madonna's using mind control over him. I don't recognise the man he's become.

"He was a sweet, beautiful, loving husband and father. Today he's very cold and calculating."

Cynthia, who now plans to divorce the New York Yankees star, added: "I believe he was having an affair with Madonna." The friend said: "This all started with Kabbalah.

"Alex told Cynthia that he'd discovered that he'd been looking for his soulmate. And now, he said, he'd found her.

"Cynthia also said she found a letter where Alex told Madonna 'You are my true soulmate.' "She is very upset as you may imagine but she still loves her husband."

Cynthia's claims come in the wake of Mirror revelations that Madonna, 49, and movie director husband Guy Ritchie are planning divorce after seven years of marriage.

The pair have the same manager, Guy Oseary. She and Oseary, 38, watched Rodriguez play last weekend.

It is believed Madge, Oseary and Rodriguez have also been attending New York's Kabbalah centre together on Fridays and Saturdays since the singer arrived in the city for rehearsals for her upcoming world tour.

Rodriguez, who has been married for five years, also reportedly made a series of late night visits to Madonna's Manhattan apartment.

Cynthia, who had the couple's second daughter 10 weeks ago, has now fled to Paris. She is staying at the flat of rock singer Lenny Kravitz. Rodriguez, who earns £13million a year, upset Cynthia in April by showing up 10 minutes after she gave birth to Ella Alexander. He hurt her feelings further by spending only a day with her and the baby before rejoining his team.

Kravitz, 44, yesterday made it clear he was not involved in the Rodriguez marital breakdown - and said rumours claiming he was were hurtful and vicious.

He said: "Cynthia came here to escape everything happening in New York.

"Cynthia is a friend and is here with the godfather of her baby, who is also Alex's trainer, his wife and their baby girl.

"There is absolutely no affair between Cynthia Rodriguez and myself.

"This is unequivocally, 100 per cent not true. I opened my home to her as a friend and I find it extremely hurtful that I am now being referred to as an adulterer."

Madonna and Kravitz collaborated on her 1990 hit Justify My Love. They were reported to be a couple at the time.

Meanwhile Ritchie, who jetted out to New York in an effort to save his marriage, is expected to return to the couple's London home this weekend.

Both he and Madonna are said to have consulted divorce lawyers.

Fiona Shackleton, 52, who represented Sir Paul McCartney in his divorce from Heather Mills, has provided informal advice to Madonna. Guy has consulted divorce specialists Forsters.

The couple are estimated to be worth £300million. The majority of the wealth is from Madonna's career. But Ritchie, 39, has an estimated £20million.

Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg has insisted she and Ritchie have no plans to divorce. She also stressed that Madonna and Rodriguez are merely friends, adding: "Madonna and Alex have the same manager, Guy Oseary.

"They have met. They know each other and Madonna took her kids to a Yankees game last week. There's really not anything to comment on beyond that."

Madonna became a convert to Kabbalah 10 years ago - and swiftly became its most famous advocate. The cult has become popular in Hollywood.

Followers are attracted to its emphasis on meditation and spurning temptation.
