Salt Lake City - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement regarding the planned burning of the Quran in by a pastor in Florida.
Pastor Terry Jones and his Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville Florida plan to burn several copies of the Quran on Saturday's anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon 9 years ago.
Several religious leaders have condemned the idea, along with federal and military officials who worry over potential backlash from Muslim extremists.
On Wednesday, Scott Trotter, spokesman for the LDS Church, released the following statement:
"A key tenet of our faith is to accord everyone the freedom to worship as they choose. It is regrettable that anyone would regard the burning of any scriptural text as a legitimate form of protest or disagreement."
