With an estimated 17 million members, the Mormon Church, officially known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), is among the richest religious institutions in the world.

What is the Mormon Church's net worth?

According to Daily Mail, the church's net worth is estimated at $236 billion (KSh 30.4 trillion), which includes substantial investments in stocks, real estate, and business ventures.

By 2044, it is predicted that its wealth could rise to $1 trillion (KSh 129.5 trillion).

In contrast, the Finance Monthly reports that the Vatican, which is under the sovereignty of the Catholic Church, has assets worth about $73 billion (KSh 9.5 trillion).

The Mormon Church has accumulated a sizable cash reserve that it can draw on in the case of economic instability or unrest. Its 'cash cushion' is far bigger than that of Google and Microsoft and more than three times that of the tech behemoth Apple.

How did the Mormon Church accumulate wealth?

Members of the religious organisation give tithes (10% of their income) and other donations.

Any extra money is placed in a portfolio of stocks, bonds, private equity, and other companies, and the money is used for yearly expenses like constructing new temples.

This is overseen by Ensign Peak Advisors, the church's mysterious investment fund.

The fund began reporting on some of its stocks every quarter, and in March 2023, those stocks were valued at an estimated $46.2 billion (KSh 6 trillion).

What's the projected net worth of the church in 15 years?

The Widow's Mite revealed that in addition to bonds and real estate, it probably owns additional foreign equities and shares across the globe.

Investments account for around 75% of the church's total assets, with the remainder consisting of mission properties, welfare farms and ranches, ecclesiastical buildings, and a few small companies.

According to the insiders, the Church will be worth $500 billion (KSh 64.75 trillion) in 11 to 15 years and KSh 130 trillion in 21 to 27 years if it maintains its current financial plan and keeps growing.
