Bigamist must complete term

St. George -- A 5th District judge on Friday denied a motion to reduce the jail term of convicted bigamist Rodney Hans Holm.

Holm, 37, who worked as a police office in the twin polygamist communities of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz., was convicted by a jury last August on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old in addition to bigamy. All charges were third-degree felonies.

Judge G. Rand Beacham sentenced Holm in October.

Beacham sentenced Holm to up to five years on each conviction to be served concurrently, and suspended the sentences, ordering him instead to serve a year in Washington County's Purgatory Correctional Facility.

Holm has been serving his sentence under a work-release program that allows him to be incarcerated on weekends and just at night on weekdays.

With time off for good behavior, Holm is expected to serve about eight months of the sentence.
