Polygamist sect leader had 17 different visitors

KOLD News, Utah/November 29, 2006

Salt Lake City -- Seventeen different people have visited polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs since his incarceration in a Washington County, Utah, jail.

The list was obtained by The Associated Press through an information request. It records jail visits between September 4th and November 4th.

Jeffs is president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He's being held at the Purgatory Correctional Facility awaiting a December 14th hearing to decide if he'll stand trial on two felony counts of rape as an accomplice.

Jeffs has been visited most frequently by his Las Vegas attorney Richard Wright, who's been to the jail 12 times.

Former church members say the frequent visits from church elders show Jeffs is still in control of his church.
