Trial date set for Albemarle psychic

The Daily Progress, Virginia/November 40, 2015

A trial date has been set for a woman accused of defrauding multiple clients while operating a psychic readings business.

Sandra Marks, aka Catherine Marks of Readings by Catherine, is set to face a jury May 9 in Charlottesville’s federal courthouse. The trial is expected to last five days.

In April, Marks, 42, was indicted on 31 counts of wire fraud, two counts of mail fraud and one count of money laundering. She pleaded not guilty to those charges in August.

A federal judge in New York denied bond for Marks in August, calling her a flight risk. Marks filed a motion in October asking for her pretrial detention to be revoked, which U.S. District Judge Glen Conrad still is considering. She remains at the Central Virginia Regional Jail until a decision is made on that motion.

Marks’ business offered palm, candle, tarot card, astrological and spiritual readings, according to her indictment, which alleges that she “unjustly enriched herself, and others, by obtaining money, jewelry and other things of value … based on false pretenses, representations, promises and omission of material facts.”
