Skinhead was determined to kill Obama

Birmingham Star/January 15, 2010

An Arkansas man has pleaded guilty in the US to having designed a plot to kill President Obama while he was still running for the White House.

Charges against Paul Schlesselman, 19, of Arkansas, were that he tried to kill Mr Obama and dozens of other black people in 2008.

Schlesselman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy, threatening to kill and harm a presidential candidate and possessing a firearm to commit violence.

He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced in April.

A co-defendant, Daniel Cowart, 21, of Tennessee, is also in custody, being held until his trial.

The two have been described by prosecutors as white supremacist skinheads who decided to go on an unfulfilled killing spree, that would have culminated with an attack on Mr Obama, who was then running for president.

The two gave statements about their plans to investigators, who said they had intended shooting at Obama from a car emblazoned with Nazi symbols, while wearing white tuxedoes and top hats.
