Church Members Defend Cult Leader

KFDA News, Texas/December 11, 2008

Church members of an apocalyptic cult in our area took the stand Thursday, defending their leader Wayne Bent.

One member described Bent as "A man who would do whatever GOD told him at any cost to himself," According to member Gabriel Travesser -- who has known Bent for more than 30 years. Travesser described him as a spiritual shepherd and a guide.

Bent is accused of sex crimes against underage girls who were among his followers. A grand jury in Clayton indicted him last spring on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Bent is the leader of the lord our righteousness church which occupies a compound called Strong City in Union County.
