White Supremacists Admit Terrorizing Local Family

Trio Pleads Guilty, Sentence To Come Later

Associated Press/February 2003

Covington, Ky. -- Three self-described white supremacists have pleaded guilty to federal civil-rights violations for terrorizing a black family in Covington.

Devlin Burke, 23, Matthew Campbell, 22, and Jeffery Henson, 23, admitted engaging in a yearlong campaign of terror, beginning in the spring of 2001.

The victims were Gloria Powell and her two teenage children, Maurice and Devonian, who lived across the street from Burke. Campbell and Henson are also from Covington.

The three will be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Covington at a date yet to be determined.

Each faces up to 10 years in prison for conspiring to interfere with the right of the Powell family to live in the neighborhood of their choosing, free from intimidation based on race or color.
