White supremacist leader sentenced to 13 years

Associated Press/July 4, 2015

Pendleton -- The leader of a Pendleton white supremacist gang has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.

The East Oregonian reports 31-year-old Jeremiah Mauer was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of second-degree assault. He agreed to a plea deal that allowed him to avoid a trial where he could have faced 14 additional charges.

The conspiracy charge is connected to a shooting at a Pendleton home in November 2014. The assault charges stem from incidents last fall.

Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts has said Mauer was the founder of the United Aryan Empire group that was responsible for a series of fights and shootings last year. Two fellow gang members have made plea deals and await sentencing.
