The mystery of an 'eerie' bright light that was seen shining above Peggy's Cove has been solved.
Startled residents were baffled after spotting the bright orange-hued light earlier this week.
Chris Ewing said he spotted the light with his girlfriend on Thursday night, while they were out near Saint Margarets Bay. He said it grew "rapidly" and had an orange colour.
"It was eerie," he told CTV Atlantic.
The light, which was silent and seemed to hover in mid-air for several minutes, baffled others who wondered if it might be related to the recent Perseid meteor shower or possibly a UFO.
But the mystery was solved on Friday, after Canadian Forces Base Greenwood confirmed to CTV News that search and rescue crews were performing exercises at Peggy's Cove between 9 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Those exercises included the use of long-lasting military flares, CFB Greenwood said.
