The brother of a reputed cult leader was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for sexually enticing minors associated with the Caledonia religious group.
Stanley Yarber, 46, formerly of 1244 LaSalle St., was given the prison term by Racine County Circuit Court Judge Emmanuel Vuvunas. Yarber was convicted of two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes.
Yarber is the older brother of Larry Yarber, the controversial leader of a religious group based in an apartment building at 3313 Packer Drive in Caledonia.
Racine County sheriff's deputies said their investigation indicated Stanley Yarber had sexual contact with a girl living in the Packer Drive building. Racine police said Yarber also was suspected of exposing himself to girls at his north-side home in March 1989.
Larry Yarber and his associates were not accused of any wrongdoing in the allegations against Stanley Yarber.
Larry Yarber made newspaper and magazine headlines during 1990 through a child custody dispute in Kenosha County Circuit Court. A former Larry Yarber follower successfully argued that his children should be kept away from the group's religious practices.
