John Travolta and Kelly Preston were among the celebrities who attended the 42nd anniversary celebration of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood, Calif., on Aug. 6. More than 1,000 Scientologists and guests attended the gala, according to www.travolta.com.

The Travoltas greeted fans and friends on the red carpet. Also attending were fellow Scientologists Priscilla Presley, Jenna Elfman, Anne Archer, Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Erika Christensen and Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson on “The Simpsons”).

The event’s guest speakers included John Redman, director of Demand Reduction for California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, a program of National Drug Control Policy, according to Scientologynews.org.

The Travoltas are longtime Scientologists who spearheaded the opening of the Scientology Mission in Ocala in May. During a large street party on opening day, Travolta thanked Marion County residents for helping his family get through difficult days (the death of their son, Jett, in 2009). “This community protected us and safeguarded us,” he said. “So the biggest gift I can give you in return is this mission.”
