Correction: Germany-Scientology Story

Associated Press/January 2, 2008

In a December 9th story about the Church of Scientology International in Germany, The Associated Press erroneously reported that German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told Bild am Sonntag newspaper that intelligence agencies were moving to ban the group and that he called it an unconstitutional organization.

Instead, Schaeuble was quoted by the paper as saying Scientology was a group "that is hostile to the constitution" and that security agencies will "examine further steps" against it.

On December 7th, interior ministers of Germany's 16 state governments had called on the country's security agencies to collect information about the group "with the aim of a ban," the Berlin state Interior Ministry, which hosted the meeting, said in a statement on its Web site. But Schaeuble did not comment on a possible ban in the Bild am Sonntag story.
