New information has emerged about Nicole Kidman's life in Scientology when she was married to Tom Cruise.
A former member of the group who looked after their children claims the actress was ostracised in part because of her late father was an eminent psychiatrist.
Nora Sova Crest was 20 when she was part of Scientology's elite Sea Org at the Celebrity Center in Los Angeles where she looked after the Hollywood power couple's children.
"They were there for a summer doing courses and I helped a couple of days to understand the words that they were reading in their course packs," Ms Crest, a former Scientologist, said.
As Cruise and Kidman separated, Kidman was declared an enemy of the Church of Scientology.
"The reason was because her father, as we were told, was the number one psych, as they like to use the term, in Australia and he had turned Nicole against Scientology and Tom Cruise," Ms Crest said.
"[Nicole] realised it was pretty crazy and because she's not an insane person decided, like, maybe I shouldn't do this anymore."
Surprisingly, she said Kidman reportedly studied Scientology's upper levels, where the story of Xenu, the Galactic overlord, is revealed.
Ms Crest also shed light on Scientology's homophobia, including what happened when she confessed to kissing a girl.
"I was sent to do manual labour for 12 to 16 hours a day and for that I got paid $11.25 a week," she said.
In a statement, the Church of Scientology said they do not discriminate against homosexuals.
But the fact is, Scientology Founder L Ron Hubbard wrote that homosexuals are perverts who are dangerous to society and need to be cured with Scientology auditing and quarantine.
Despite this, celebrity Scientologist Laura Prepon plays a lesbian in the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black and accepted an award from gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD.
"It is actually the worst crime you can commit in Scientology,” Ms Crest said.
On a positive note, she also helped John Travolta with his reading.
"He's unbelievably lovely, I mean honestly he's probably the nicest person I've ever met in real life," she said.
Church of Scientology Statement:
The Church of Scientology opposes discrimination of any sort and we practice a policy of inclusion among our parishioners. As a minority group we understand what it is like to be discriminated against and persecuted. We are staunch defenders of human rights.
The fundamental belief of Scientology is that each individual is an immortal spiritual being and all of their personality and individuality are part of that spiritual being. They are not the body they inhabit for their time on earth, be it male or female. It is just a shell which is discarded upon death. The spirit lives on in a different body, lifetime after lifetime, and can be in a female body one life and a male body the next. If one takes the principle that they have lived before and will live again, then one gains a different perspective on the nature of gender. The native individual – the spiritual being has no innate sexuality. It is something that is assumed for each life.
Our purpose is to assist people to become more able and spiritually aware.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of documented accounts of abuses of human rights in Scientology, many carried out by its leader David Miscavige.
