Lisa Marie Presley has not rejoined the Church of Scientology, contrary to reports earlier this month that she had.
“To the best of my information, Lisa Marie Presley is not back in [the church],” Scientology expert Tony Ortega told me. “She is going through a lot of trouble in her life right now. But she has not rejoined.”
Presley, 49, made a clean break with the cult-like religion in 2014. But her daughter Riley Keough, a Golden Globe-nominated actress, is still a devout follower and fighting to get her mom back in the fold, according to Ortega.
Presley checked into drug rehab in 2016 and is in the midst of a bitter divorce with Michael Lockwood, who recently claimed in court that Presley was getting $500,000 a month from her father’s estate. Presley said she was collecting just $100,000 a month.
Elvis himself wanted nothing to do with Scientology. According to the book “Elvis Aaron Presley: Revelations From the Memphis Mafia,” co-written by Elvis’ friend Marty Lacker, after a visit to the Scientology center in Los Angeles, Elvis said, “F - - k those people! There’s no way I’ll ever get involved with that son-of-a-bitchin’ group. All they want is my money.”
In Memphis, Tenn., it’s rumored that Scientology is getting his money. Some believe that Elvis’ ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, who has been and may still be affiliated with the church, gave the group a share of his estate. It’s thought that Scientology financed the $45 million “Elvis Presley’s Memphis” entertainment complex that just opened at Graceland as an investment.
Lisa Marie’s reps did not respond to requests for comment.
