Daughter of jailed cult leader: 'Yorkshire is my sanctuary'

ITV News, UK/February 2, 2016

The daughter of a cult leader who kept her imprisoned for the first 30 years of her life and brainwashed his followers has told how Yorkshire has become her sanctuary after she dramatically escaped his clutches.

Maoist Cult leader Aravindan Balakrishnan has been jailed for 23 years after being found guilty of raping two followers and falsely imprisoning and mistreating his daughter in a commune in south London. He was also convicted of a string of further sexual assaults.

His daughter, Katy Morgan-Davies, was finally rescued with the help of a West Yorkshire charity when she rang an anti-slavery helpline she saw on television.

Now just over two years on she has waived her anonymity to help others who may be imprisoned against their will. She told her story to Calendar's Christine Talbot.
