‘Sex and drugs cult’: Bombay high court gives cops more time to investigate

The Maharashtra government told the Bombay high court on Wednesday that with help from the cyber cell, it would complete its probe against alleged sex cult Shifu Sunkriti in four weeks.

The government also submitted a sealed report of its investigation so far.

As per the report, the crime branch discovered some online bank transactions and cheques signed by one of the two girls from Malad, whose parents were the first to approach HC.

The girl, however, denied having made the transactions and claimed that her signature must have been forged. She also denied donating any money to the cult via internet. Accordingly, additional sections of the IPC were added in the FIR.

A bench led by Justice Ranjit More expressed its satisfaction over the progress and granted it additional time.

The state also told the court that while the prime accused, and alleged leader of the group, Sunil Kulkarni, was in judicial custody, efforts were on to arrest Kulkarni’s co-accused.

The court was hearing a plea filed by a couple from Malad, who claim that their two daughters, both in their early twenties had been trapped by the cult that operates on social media.
