Robert Shinn is the longtime pastor of Shekinah Church and also helped create the Los Angeles-based talent management company, which a new documentary series alleges is a cult in disguise.
Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult is a three-part Netflix docuseries that explores this alleged cult and the suspected crimes committed by Robert Shinn, which have ultimately led his daughter, Kloë, to cut off ties with him.
Who is Robert Shinn?
Robert Shinn is the pastor of Shekinah Church and the founder of 7M Films.
The church, founded in 1994, allegedly has ties to 7M Films, founded in 2021.
7M's claim to fame is representing various TikTok dancers and content creators, including Miranda Derrick, formerly Wilking, and her husband, James "BDash" Derrick.
Former members of both Shekinah and 7M have come out saying Shinn was allegedly acting as a cult leader, instructing members to cut off contact with their families and friends, especially those who weren't "as close to God" as they were.
Shinn also allegedly took over 60 to 70% of earnings from the church's and 7M's members, disguised as management fees, church tithes, and "man of God" fees, with Shinn referring to himself as the "man of God," as reported by TV Insider.
Along with these claims, Shinn has also been accused of sexual assault, and soliciting sexual favors from 7M and church members.
Despite these allegations, no criminal charges have been brought against Shinn.
However, Shinn has to deal with an ongoing civil lawsuit between him and former clients of 7M.
He is also under investigation by the IRS for alleged tax fraud.
Both Shinn's current wife, Hannah Shinn, and ex-wife, Shirley Kim, are also involved in the church.
Hannah acts as Shekinah's CFO and 7M's talent manager, while Shirley, an attorney, has registered several of Shinn's companies, including 7M Films.
Shinn notably did not comment on the documentary series.
Who is Robert Shinn's daughter, Kloë?
Kloë Shinn is a Korean-Canadian singer and songwriter.
She is also Robert Shinn's daughter.
While she is his only daughter, she is not his only child; Kloë has two siblings, Conrad and Isaiah.
Isaiah is a film director and videographer according to his Instagram, where he boasts over 600,000 followers.
At the age of 10, she taught herself how to play piano, and learned how to play the guitar at 13 to help enhance her songwriting skills, as reported by Hype Magazine.
She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, where she works in the music industry.
Her songs have been featured on reality TV shows including Dancing With the Stars, The Real Housewives franchise, and Queer Eye.
She also selected music for 7M dance videos, that content creators regularly used in their TikTok videos.
Kloë is notably absent from the Netflix documentary, though she is repeatedly mentioned throughout the three-part series.
In the documentary, a former member of the Shekinah Church Melanie Wilking, recalls a moment when she was on her way to the airport to pick up a friend.
Kloë allegedly called her and tried to convince her to turn around to attend an "urgent" church service instead.
Little is known about Shinn's daughter, as she has gone dark on social media.
She reportedly made her Instagram account, @iamkloejo, private just days before Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult premiered on Netflix on May 29, 2024.
Kloë has 25,500 followers on the app, and her bio reads "like a tree planted by rivers of water."
This is perhaps a nod to Psalm 1:3, "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
Is Kloë Shinn married?
Kloë Shinn is married to Daniel N. Joseph.
The duo reportedly married in 2015, and have been married for nine years.
Daniel was previously registered as the secretary of Shekinah Church, and also directed and produced 7M dance videos.
His family were founding members of the Shekinah Church, though they cut ties with the organization after disagreeing with Shinn about Shekinah's finances.
Daniel rejoined the church in college and quickly became Shinn's "right -hand man," as reported by The Cut.
Daniel also went private on social media shortly before the docuseries premiered in May 2024.
In May 2022, rumors began that Kloë and Daniel had cut ties with the Shekinah Church and 7M Films.
In August 2022, the duo released a statement on @withoutacrystalball, previously Exposing7M, an Instagram account dedicated to exposing Shinn and his alleged crimes.
"Though we prefer for our personal lives and business to be private, we understand there is a lot of interest due to the recent media coverage regarding 7M Films," the statement began.
"Since it has been made known to us that people plan to report on our personal situation without having spoken to us, we are making this statement to set the record straight and it is our only statement on the matter currently," the couple wrote.
"At the beginning of May of this year, we parted ways with Shekinah Church and have no business with any company connected to the church or it's [sic] associates."
"We also parted ways with 7M Films management at the beginning of May of this year. We have no business with 7M Films, it's [sic] associates or it's [sic] clients."
"We have not spoken to any media outlets on the matter and any reports claiming to have spoken to us are falsely reporting."
The couple thanked their friends and followers and signed off on the statement, "Daniel and Kloë Joseph."
