Alamo followers refuse to say where children are

Associated Press/May 3, 2009

Texarkana, Arkansas - Two followers of jailed evangelist Tony Alamo are still refusing to tell a judge where their children are.

A man and woman from different families attended a court hearing Thursday where they refused to tell Miller County Circuit Judge Joe Griffin where the children are. The two have been held in jail for contempt of court.

Griffin told the Texarkana Gazette that the two jailed followers won't be free until they "purge" their contempt and say where the children are.

The state has seized 36 children associated with the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries since a September raid on a church compound in Fouke. Alamo, 74, faces a May 18 federal trial on charges he took young girls across state lines for sex.
