West Side residents awoke this morning to find fliers on car windshields for blocks advertising a white supremacist group and blaming Jews for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Residents of the streets around Edgewood Drive and into downtown Charleston discovered a two-page announcement touting the National Alliance, a white supremacist group based in Pocahontas County.

One sheet asks for donations for the international group headquartered outside of Marlinton so the group can "help end American aid to the bandit state of Israel, which resulted in the deaths of Americans on September 11th."

Topped with the exhortation "Help Fight Terrorism!" the leaflet shows an image of smoke pouring from the Twin Towers shortly before they collapsed.

The message is that America should abandon its pro-Israel stance in order avoid such attacks.

"Help put an end to the killing of Palestinian women and children every day, not just on September 11th," the flier says.

The other flier advertises the "Resistance Youth Corps" and asks youngsters to sign up for "action, adventure, teamwork, skills and all out fun. . . for all white men and women."

By camping, canoeing, playing paintball, the youth group promises to help youths resist drugs, gangs and "race mixing."

West Side residents did not seem impressed.

"You've got to be kidding me," said Jeff Ferrell of Maple Road. "My wife was taking the kids to school this morning and she said they were all over the place.

"Who would go to the trouble to do all that -- not to mention the question of who would hold such asinine beliefs. I think some people have too much time on their hands."
