Two Amway distributors arrested

Hyderbad: Searches in the offices of Amway India Enterprises continued for the second day today. Crime Investigation Department (CID) teams seized a large number of documents and sealed godowns of Amway where goods worth over Rs 5 crore were stocked.

CID Superintendent of Police V C Sajjnar told this websites newspaper that the searches continued in Amway offices at two places in the city and in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kurnool.

“There are a lot of documents which are yet to be seized. It is a complex case. Searches will continue at least for the next two days,” he said.

The CID arrested two of the alleged distributors — Ramu and Padmavathi — who were later produced in court. They were remanded to judicial custody till October 10. The police also passed on the details of the raids to Income Tax, Sales Tax departments and drug authorities to probe the alleged violation of various laws by Amway group.

“We are also probing from where the chain started. We learnt that it started from Michigan in the US, but it is yet to be confirmed,” the SP said.

Yesterday, the CID registered a case against Amway under Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act 1978.
