Police raid 8 Aum facilities over 1995 NPA chief's shooting

Kyodo News/July 8, 2004

Tokyo -- Police on Thursday raided eight facilities of the Aum Shinrikyo cult, including its headquarters in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward, over the 1995 shooting of then National Police Agency chief Takaji Kunimatsu.

Four former Aum members, including a former police officer, were arrested Wednesday over the attack, by which Kunimatsu was seriously wounded. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department believes another former cult member, Satoru Hashimoto, 37, was the actual gunman in the shooting.
