SJC to hear cult case appeal

Boston Herald/May 3, 2002

The state's highest court will hear an appeal from an Attleboro couple who are members of a religious sect and have been jailed for refusing to reveal the whereabouts of a baby they say was never born.

David and Rebecca Corneau have been jailed for months for refusing to tell a juvenile court judge what happened to the remains of their baby. The couple says Rebecca Corneau had a miscarriage but a judge fears the child may have died after birth or is being hidden. The Supreme Judicial Court will hear the appeal May 9.
