Church leader arrested, accused of molesting teen

Wichita Eagle/August 3, 2006

Wichita police arrested a 32-year-old church youth group leader Wednesday, a week after a 13-year-old member of his church claimed he molested her.

Neither the suspect's nor the church's name was released by police. Capt. Randy Landen said more information could be available as early as today.

Last week, the girl's mother told police that her daughter said the girl's church youth group leader took the girl into a bedroom at his home about 10 p.m. July 25.

The girl said she thought the man was going to type her e-mail address into a computer. But once in the room, he closed and locked the door, the girl said, before kissing and fondling her.

Police said the suspect lives near Webb Road and Harry.

There were no visible injuries, police said.

Police classified the incident as possible aggravated indecent liberties with a child. But police have not presented their case to the district attorney for formal charges.
