The Crystal Cathedral will reopen at a new location under the name Hope Center of Christ, the Orange County church's senior pastor said Sunday.
Senior Pastor Sheila Schuller Coleman said that the church will announce a new location this week.
The announcement comes on the heels of church founder Robert H. Schuller's resignation from the international board of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. Schuller said Saturday that he and his wife would step down, citing a "negative" environment.
"It has been agonizing," Schuller Coleman said Sunday. "We wanted to be peacemakers. We wanted to build bridges. The church will continue."
The resignations followed a breakdown in negotiations over financial claims against the church that the Schullers filed in Bankruptcy Court.
The church has struggled through bankruptcy and church officials announced the sale of the Garden Grove campus to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange in February for $57.5 million.
The Schullers' resignation marks the end of an era. For the first time, no family member is serving on the board of the church that Robert Schuller founded 42 years ago.
