7 more Kigenkai cultists face arrest for beating woman to death

Mainichi Daily News, Japan/October 27, 2007

Komoro, Nagano -- Seven more female members of the Kigenkai religious cult face arrest for beating another member to death, police said.

Local police are set to arrest the seven people, whose names were not immediately disclosed, on suspicion of inflicting bodily injury resulting in death. It will bring the number of those arrested for fatally assaulting 63-year-old Motoko Okuno to 30, including two members of the victim's family.

After questioning members of the organization, investigators suspect that it is highly likely that a dispute within Okuno's family triggered the incident.

Investigators suspect that dozens of followers started the attack on Okuno, a sushi restaurant owner, at the religious organization's headquarters in Komoro on the night of Sept. 24, and continued into the early hours of the following day.
