Macon, Georgia -- An accused DeKalb County cult leader convicted of rape was injured in a prison fight this week.

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) says Eligio Bishop was involved in an altercation at Macon State Prison on Wednesday. He was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and returned to the facility, GDC says.

Bishop was the leader of a polygamist group called “Carbon Nation” and claimed to be God. A former member said he raped her and posted nude photos of her online in revenge after she left, according to the attorney’s office.

Bishop stood trial earlier this year on rape, false imprisonment and three counts of prohibition on nude or sexually explicit electronic transmission charges. A judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole and a combined 10 years on the other counts.

Wednesday’s incident at the prison is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards
