CBI Gears up Evidence Against Sirsa Cult Leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Panthic Weekly News Bureau, India/May 16, 2008

Ambala, Haryana - The Supreme Court case against Gurmeet Ram Rahim took a new turn as the CBI filed documents claiming credible evidence against the Baba for molesting his female followers. The Central Bureau of Investigation has asked the court to consider these documents while deciding the murder cases that are pending against the Baba. This CBI action will fortify the efforts of Sikh Jathebandis that have also filed cases against the cult leader for hurting their religious sentiments.

Although more than two cases have already been filed by the court in regards to sexually exploiting the dera Saadhvis (female followers), this was the first time that statements by a saadhvi were read in court in front of the Dera Chief. The statements of Sarjeevan Kaur and another woman named Sapna were read in the court of honorable Judge RK Saini that claimed that the Dera Chief had hurt their religious sentiments and also abused them at several different times in his personal 'guffa' (private meditation room).

In addition, according to the prosecution lawyers, success was imminent in the case of the Dera Chief as all the customary hearings were complete. According to S. Gursher Singh Sullar, the murder cases of Ranjit and Chattarpatti were also concluded in the court session. According to S. Sullar, the Sikh prosecution lawyer, no further proofs or evidences were required in this case and the statement of Sarjeevan Kaur and Sapna are credible enough to bring the Dera Chief to justice in the case of sexual exploitation.

The defense counsel, Amrish Gandhi refused to comment on the statements by the Saadhvis and asked for more time to further examine them. The next hearing was schedule for May 24th after considering a request by the defense lawyer. It should be kept in mind that the court is yet to conclude its hearings on the murder cases.

Several leaders of Sikh organizations were present at the court hearing. Bhai Narinder Singh Harnoli, President of World Sikh Mission, along with its General Secretary, Bhai Tirath Singh, appealed to the Sikh Sangat to keep up the boycott of Dera Sacha Sauda and its followers in all aspects. According to a mandate by Akal Takhat Sahib, Dera followers are encouraged to return to their initial faiths and stay wary of the efforts by the Dera Sacha Sauda cult in misguiding people of all faiths.
